The Church Choir
>
We are a choir of around a dozen voices and, like most choirs, we are always seeking to increase our numbers in all parts. We practice on a Thursday at 7.30 p.m. and we sing hymns, psalms and an anthem at the service of Sung Eucharist on Sundays at 10.00 a.m. On the last Sunday of each month at 6.00 p.m. (and on special occasions) we sing Choral Evensong which includes hymns, psalms, a setting of responses, a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis and an anthem. We also have performed at a variety of one-off concerts and services around the country. Our music is chosen from a wide range of sacred music by composers from the 16th century to the present including, for example, works by Byrd, Bach, Mozart, Elgar, Stanford (one of our favourites!), Bairstow, Rutter and Grayston Ives. Although we operate from an extensive repertoire, we continue to introduce music new to the choir both for interest and to hone our sight reading skills! If you think you might be interested in joining us, why not come along and see and hear what we are doing? We don't do formal auditions but we would look for a pleasant voice, an ability to follow a line of music and a commitment to attend practices and Sunday services - not much to ask! If you want to know more, just turn up on a Thursday or a Sunday or better still, contact our Choirmaster Denis Meney on 01505323823 or our Rector, Rev. Darren McFarland on 01505 812359. |
